“We knew from the beginning that we wanted to find a way to support our love of the arts. There are so many talented people in this world. We knew if we could find a way to incorporate fine art pieces into our projects it would not only enhance the visual experience for our clients, but also provide artists with a platform to share their work with a larger audience. The Art Program is a program that allows local artists to submit their work to be displayed in both residential and commercial projects. We take submissions year-round; however select at least two artists quarterly to feature on our website and newsletter.” – Chris Paradise

Art Program

Artist Spotlight: Rachel Rasnick

November 29th, 2019 | Art Program

Our first featured artist in the brand new Art Program is Special Olympic Athlete, Rachel Rasnick of Barrington, Rhode Island. I met with Rachel last week to learn more about her artistic background and the future of rachelrasnick.com. Only recently realizing her passion for painting, Rachel along with her mother Karen, have launched a business that features Rachel’s bright and inspiring paintings. She began painting with acrylic paints in a program she attended called Studio57 at Looking Upwards Rhode Island. Looking Upwards is a program dedicated to inspiring adults with special needs. It was there that she discovered her natural ability to manipulate acrylic paint to mimic watercolor. Rachel’s art is inspired by physical forms that often resemble abstract silhouettes. She also finds inspiration from the natural environment including trees and animal narratives.

“Ruby” – acrylic on canvas

“Ruby”, the color-blocked silhouette of a short-haired woman reflects Rachel’s love for abstract art. Her ability to use color to create shape and within that shape shadow shows her knowledge of color usage. While she’s only been painting for three years, Rachel’s skill is mature in understanding the principles of design. “Ruby” is the first painting that Rachel curated.

“It just came out of nowhere and she was good at it.” – Maxine

In August of 2019, Rachel Rasnick Art was erected and production began with printed note cards and Rachel’s beautiful acrylic canvases printed on “museum quality paper”, says Karen, Rachel’s mother. In addition to her website domain Rachel also sells her work through her Etsy.com shop and at local crafting events. Rachel is no stranger to “featured artist” as she is heavily involved in the local art community. She is participating in the Small Business Expo on November 30th, from 9am to 4pm. She is also the featured artist for the month of December and will be participating at the Pop Up event happening at the Collaborative on December 1st.

Prior to her new business venture, Rachel dedicated her time to swimming for the Special Olympics. Rachel holds the record for #1 swimmer in the state of Rhode Island for the Special Olympics.

“She’s the fastest female swimmer in the state for Special Olympics and was invited last summer to be on the Rhode Island team to compete on the National level.” – Karen

Our goal through the Art Program is to showcase skill and passion but also authentic people. We are so honored to be featuring artwork painted by Rachel in our most recent residential staging project. We highly encourage you to follow Rachel on her journey through art.
